Boy Sews Bow Ties For Shelter Pets So They Could Get Adopted

There are just too many shelter dogs and cats in this world and no matter how much you love them, you can’t adopt them all. However, you can do plenty of things to make these lovely cuties’ life better. For example, dressing them up so they could get adopted easily. Seriously, who can resist such charm?

Meet Darius Brown, a 14-year-old boy who has spent years sewing fashionable tiny bow ties for shelter dogs and cats in America. And it works like magic!

Sir Darius Brown

According to Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter’s executive director Lorri Caffrey who has been receiving his donated bow ties for two years, the gifts from this young boy have helped their dogs (especially the senior and the disabled ones) find their forever home a lot faster.

You can tell that this guy is also a fashion genius as each of Darius’ bow ties is truly unique. Darius thinks that even little things like a bow tie can express an animal’s personality, so he loves to try combining different colors and patterns to create special ones.

For four years, the kind-hearted boy has made over 600 bow ties for shelter animals in D.C. and eight states of America so far, and he definitely won’t just stop there. His goal is to give bow ties to an animal shelter in every state.

Sir Darius Brown

Darius is currently living with his mother and his sister in their apartment in Newark, New Jersey. The boy’s sister Dazhai taught him how to make a bow tie when he was only 8, but it wasn’t an easy start for Darius. As his mother once shared, Darius was diagnosed with speech disorder and fine motor skills disorder when he was 2 years old, so learning to use a sewing machine was a challenge for sure.

Darius did sew several bow ties for his friends and himself, but it’s not until two years later that he came up with the idea of helping shelter animals and hasn’t stopped since then. Everyone knows that this boy has a heart of gold, and no difficulty would ever change that.
