Stray Dog Endures Treacherous Challenges With Extreme Athletes To Get Better Life

The life of stray dogs is not easy at all. They used to have a warm home, but suddenly one day, they are left to fend for themselves in the open air. Just a very small kindhearted gesture can change their whole life. This story is about a stray dog whose life became much better after following Team Peak Performance. Everything started when the dog was offered a bit of food.

Mikael Lindnord and his team of intense athletes were participating in the difficult challenges of the 2014 Adventure Racing World Championship in Ecuador. On the fourth day, they stopped for a meal before starting to trek through the rainforest.

While eating Swedish meatballs, Lindnord noticed a dog standing near their area. The dog looked so skinny and dirty with a large wound on his back. Feeling sympathy for the stray dog, Lindnord shared a bit of food with him.

From that moment, the dog, who was eventually named King Arthur by the members of Team Peak Performance, didn’t leave their sides. He followed them to go everywhere, even when they did exhausting tasks.

As the team had to approach a particularly dangerous challenge that was a 36-mile kayak race across the coast, the team decided to shoo Arthur away because they were worried about the dog’s safety. They couldn’t bring Arthur along.

However, when the team began to come into the dark and freezing waters, they saw Arthur paddle beside the kayak. Lindnord immediately drew him to safety, and finally admitted that Team Peak Performance had a fifth member. Seeing Arthur took his rightful place beside his teammates, viewers alongside the banks broke out an impulsive clapping.

The dedicated dog kept company with the team through 430 miles of deep silt, mountain passes, and about every kind of physical challenge. Although Lindnord’s team did not win the championship, they got a wonderful lesson about enduring love and strength of courage.

After six days of the voyage, Arthur got numerous injuries and fatigue. Team Peak Performance’s PayPal account was overwhelmed with donations from fans around the world in hopes that Arthur could be brought back to Sweden.

Even though obtaining the necessary documents to get Arthur home was as hard as the physical competition, Lindnord just did that. After four months of quarantine, all the wounds of Arthur were treated and finally, he arrived at his new home.

Lindnord said that Arthur walked through the door as if this was his home for years. He and Arthur still enjoyed a good hike or a ride in the kayak together.

Lindnord also wrote a book about his adventures with Arthur. It was released in the US on September 12, 2017.

The talented filmmakers at ESPN created a moving feature about Arthur and Team Peak Performance that aired March 5 during SportsCenter. It’s a must-watch for all dog lovers!
